Saint Joseph School was established in 1958. It originally educated students in grades 1 - 5. Each year an additional grade was added until we had a grade 1 - 8 school. In 1984, a kindergarten class was established. The kindergarten was orignially housed in the convent, but was moved into the main school building when the church was built in 1992. In 2004, Saint Joseph School proudly introduced our pre-k programs, making us a pre-K - grade 8 school. We are a fully accreditated NEASC pre-K - grade 8 school.
SJS proudly educates 190 students from many surrounding towns (New Milford, Danbury, Roxbury, Bethel, Newtown, New Fairfield, Sherman, and Bridgewater to name a few). Each classroom teacher is state certified, and most teachers obtained advanced degrees. SJS offers before and after school care, extra-curricular activities, and community outreach opportunities.
Our goal is to provide a spiritual environment focused on kindness and service to others. We maintain a strong academic environment by providing a rich core curriculum, which is systematic, ongoing and sequential.
SJS plans family oriented events to help build community. Throughout the year families attend the Welcome Back to School Ice Cream Social, Father-Daughter Ball, Family Clambake, SJS Gala, Bingo, and many sporting events.
SJS provides a loving environment where our children are able to grow intellectually, socially and spiritually. It is our goal to prepare our students for high school, college, and beyond.
